The Haakaa breast pump was developed years ago from none other than a Mom who saw a need for a product to make her life easier. And so, the Haakaa was born. The Haakaa offers two levels of support, a means to collect milk from a leaky breast and for a discrete and easy way to pump milk. One of my favorite features of the Haakaa is that it is a single silicone piece making it very user friendly.

The first option for us is to collect milk on the breast you are not feeding on. If you are a Mom who tends to leak on the other breast this can be a shirt-saver for you. (Some of us rarely leak - if that’s you - consider yourself lucky!) The second option is to use it as an actual breast pump to remove milk, and because of its size, it can be a discrete and quiet way to pump. If you’re tired of using your daily pump the Haakaa can be a good alternative! Since we now know there are two ways to use this innovative pump - lets discuss HOW to use it.

If you’re planning to use it as a pump you’ll achieve the best suction by:

- inverting the shield by flipping the silicone flange backwards towards the body of the pump (sound familiar? Here’s where it changes)

- Squeeze the body of the pump so that 2 of the sides touch each other

- Then, while holding that squeeze, place your nipple in the middle of the flange opening

- Gently flip the flange backwards towards your breast creating a suction

- While the Haakaa is refilling with air it will use the vacuum pressure you created with the squeeze to draw milk from deep within you breast.

How do I use the Haakaa?

If you’re planning to use it to collect your over flow or otherwise wasted milk you’ll achieve the best suction by:

- Inverting the shield by flipping the silicone flange backwards towards the body of the pump

- Then, place your nipple in the middle of the flange opening

- Gently flip the flange back towards your breast to create a suction towards your breast - easy peasy!
